The British Railways class 37 locomotives are probably the archetypal usage of the 12CSVT power unit. Whilst not the first (they were preceded by a few months by an order for Sudan), nor the last (the TGRs ZA5 and ZA6 followed ten years later), the British locomotives comprised over half the locomotives to be so fitted, and some were still in commercial, mainline use in the 2020s. Locomotive 37109 was photographed in September 2019 leading a train at Bury (Bolton St) station during a diesel gala on the East Lancashire Railway.
