After its withdrawal from Tasmanian service in 1993, loco 852 was returned to South Australia and quickly entered service on broad gauge trains in the Adelaide area. After coming under the ownership of the Australian Railroad Group, the loco eventually found its way to QRN as part of its Western Australian operations and then was sold into private ownership. In 2012 it was release to traffic under the ownership of Junee Railway Workshops and was soon on hire to El Zorro for standard gauge train services generally working from Melbourne. In April 2012 it was photographed shunting from Dynon yard, in company with L277 (ex Comalcos Weipa railway in Queensland) and former VLine locomotive G535
