V9 and V12 were purchased by the Puffing Billy Railway in 1983, but only V12 was regauged and entered service on that railway. V9 was placed in their Menzies Creek museum and used as a source of parts for its operational sister and as a future rebuild should an additional locomotive be required in the future. By 2007, the availability of ex Queensland DH locomotives and changed requirements at both the railway and museum meant that V9 was no longer required and it was sold to the West Coast Wilderness Railway. Following its arrival at Queenstown, a suitable engine was sourced and the locomotive rebuilt for return to service. As the TGR built locomotives were constructed with an enlarged cab, this work unfortunately included narrowing the cab to match the British built locomotives. The work progresses slowly and was completed in late 2011. The completed locomotive was photographed at Queenstown in November 2014
