Chudleigh was built by Simon Chandler as a replacement for previous projects including Longford (displayed at least once whilst under construction) and Powranna. This layout was designed to fit in a specific room at home, which dictated its size and eventually choice of prototype location. These decisions gave a good chance for completion in a reasonable time. The layout was first displayed at Railex in March 2006.
